New Jersey After 3 Celebrates Best Afterschool
Practices In 2009
Fourth Annual Promising Practices Conference and Awards Luncheon
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – June 8, 2009
New Jersey After 3 brought together statewide nonprofit leaders and staff and school principals affiliated with more than 100 school communities on Thursday to celebrate the partnership and innovations that support more than 14,000 children enrolled in New Jersey After 3’s statewide network of afterschool programs.
The fourth annual conference included workshops, presentations, and live student performances. It also provided an exclusive opportunity to spotlight the powerful results from a three-year, longitudinal study of New Jersey After 3, conducted by Policy Study Associates, which demonstrated significant academic and behavioral gains statewide.
The conference also gave special tribute to eight afterschool programs who were identified as Promising Practice Winners for outstanding competencies and innovations in program design and implementation. The eight winners were identified through a rigorous examination by National Institute of Out of School Time (NIOST) – a national organization at the forefront of evaluation and standards for the field of afterschool.
A promising practice is a program idea that is easily replicable, innovative, and leads to improved overall program impact.
