New Jersey After 3’s Fifth Anniversary Celebration a Success!

New Jersey After 3 welcomed over 180 of its closest partners and supporters as the organization kicked off its Fifth Anniversary Celebration on Monday, April 27, 2009 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

In addition to recognizing key accomplishments in the last half-decade, the inaugural event recognized two notable guests for the instrumental roles each have played in the organization’s founding and success.

As its 2009 Corporate Champion, New Jersey After 3 honored PSEG, represented by Ralph Izzo, Chairman & CEO.

Troy Vincent, 15-year veteran of the NFL, 5-time NFL Pro-Bowler and former President of the NFL Players Association was honored as New Jersey After 3’s 2009 Individual Champion. Troy was introduced by New Jersey After 3 alumnus, Marquis Stout, alumni student and mentor with the Children’s Home Society of NJ’s New Jersey After 3 program, who brought the house down with his touching remarks.

Also attending the event were Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells, Senator Barbara Buono and New Jersey After 3’s Board Chairman, Douglas Kennedy, President of Capital One Bank – New Jersey Division, who also served as the event chair. Emmy Award-winning journalist, Dr. Steve Adubato, Jr. kept things relevant and moving while volunteering his time and talent as he served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.

Three student performances were also part of the program: The Drum Squad from the Paterson YMCA (School #28) program;

Poetry readings from students at Camp Vacamas’s program at Dr. E. Alma Flagg School in Newark;

and the Clifton Jaguar Stepping Team representing the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton’s program at School #17.

The event highlighted the importance of New Jersey After 3 as a critical support to over 14,000 children and families throughout the state and highlighted its role as a national leader in expanded learning time.

New Jersey After 3 would like to extend a special thank you to all who supported the event, but special recognition goes to…

The students of the Paterson YMCA, Boys & Girls Club of Clifton, and Camp Vacamas who provided each of guest with powerful vignettes that demonstrate that a lot can be accomplished in an afternoon;

Lead event sponsors, including: Capital One Bank; PSEG, Connell Foley LLP; Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP; Lifetime Fitness; Fox & Shuffler; Prudential Financial; The MCJ/Amelior Foundation; and United Water.

New Jersey After 3 and its Board of Trustees would like to thank everyone who contributed to making this milestone celebration a successful inaugural event!!!
