Shannon Boehmer
Director of Communications & Corporate Engagement
Shannon Boehmer is the Director of Communications & Corporate Engagement for New Jersey After 3 - a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding learning time for New Jersey's youth. In this role, Shannon oversees external communication efforts and is responsible for the cultivation of volunteer engagement partnerships with foundations, corporations, associations, and parent groups throughout the state.
Additionally, in support of New Jersey After 3 READS! literacy initiative, Shannon also serves as the Project Director for the My Very Own Library (MVOL) initiative - a Newark, NJ based literacy initiative committed to giving thousands of FREE new books (accompanied by inspiring motivational literacy activities) to thousands of Newark Public School Students at three unique distribution events throughout the school year.
Shannon serves as the primary liaison with the selected schools, and helps coordinate event logistics (marketing, book ordering, volunteer engagement, etc.) in partnership with MVOL supporters: The Foundation for Newark's Future, Mrs. Anne Feeley (a private philanthropist), First Book, Newark Public Schools, and the City of Newark - Office of Mayor Cory A. Booker.
A highlight of Shannon's contributions to MVOL during the 2011/2012 school year was her coordination of special appearances by seven award winning authors (Walter Dean Myers, Audrey Vernick, Erica Perl, George O'Connor, Selina Alko, Katy Kelly, Lulu Delacre, ) at eight MVOL schools - along with the support she lent to the production of an episode of a high-profile reality television show - which showcased My Very Own Library, Newark Public Schools, and celebrated the Mayor of Newark's city-wide literacy efforts.

Shannon started her career as an executive recruiter. With an expressed interest in working more intimately on advertising and media initiatives, Shannon secured a role with an innovative interactive television technology company, WorldGate Communications, where she served as Media Services Manager – responsible for supporting 26 Cable Operators in their strategic development and execution of interactive advertising and television programming technologies. Shannon was selected by the organization to serve as company spokesperson and featured speaker at a number of media events including: Telerx, Western Cable Show, National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), CTAM (Cable Television Advertising & Marketing), among others.
After a three-year commitment, and established partnerships with over 50 advertisers and dozens of Broadcast and Cable Television Network partners with whom Shannon worked with to produced TV optimized content – she took on a contracted Affiliate Relations role with Comcast Online Communications before taking a brief sabbatical to give birth to her two children.
Shannon returned to the workforce by starting her own small business, Shannon Boehmer Consulting – where she contracted with Garfield Group Public Relations. At that time, Shannon also contracted with New Jersey After 3. Her position with New Jersey After 3 blossomed into a permanent role within the organization where she continues to drive public awareness to high quality afterschool programs and expanded learning time efforts in New Jersey.
Shannon holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern University, and currently resides in Philadelphia, PA with her husband and two children.
